Mai Display specimen from Mai Type

A reverse-contrast display sans drawn from the tradition of hand-painted shop signage in Vietnam, currently released as a single Regular weight.

About

Still in active development at version 1.001, the typeface takes its visual logic from old Vietnamese hand-painted signage, inverting the expected stroke contrast to give letterforms an assertive, decorative character. Only a Regular style is available at present, with trial requests handled directly through the foundry. The Latin and Vietnamese character sets are both demonstrated in the specimen, reflecting the dual cultural reference of the source material.

Classification

Explicitly described as a reverse-contrast display sans, drawing on the stroke contrast inversion typical of tuscan and sign-painting traditions, here rooted in Vietnamese hand-painted signage.
