Picholine Antique
Manic Type · Jamie Chang · 2022

A slab-serif reworking of Antique Olive by Jamie Chang, giving the French sans-serif's distinctive proportions a warmer, British character with generous counters and true italics across seven weights.
About
Drawing directly from Roger Excoffon's Antique Olive, Jamie Chang has translated its unusual top-heavy contrast and compact forms into a slab-serif idiom, adding unbracketed serifs while preserving the original's generous x-height and condensed feel. The family runs across 14 styles with true italics and a broad OpenType feature set including small caps, oldstyle figures, single-storey alternates and case-sensitive forms. Cyrillic and Vietnamese support extend its reach well beyond Western European Latin.
Classification
Described by the foundry as a reimagining of Antique Olive as a British 'Antique', transforming its French sans-serif character into a slab-serif with generous proportions and warm personality.
