Tumba specimen from Manic Type

A blackletter face by Jamie Chang that fuses uncial and fraktur calligraphic traditions into a single contemporary family with eleven styles.

About

Released in 2022, it blends the rounded open letterforms of uncial script with the angular formality of fraktur, offering opentype alternate sets for each influence so designers can shift the character between the two. Seven weights from Light to Black Inline sit in the main display family, while Tumba Text provides a companion subfamily at smaller sizes. The glyph set covers 292 languages across Latin Extended.

Classification

Tumba is explicitly classified as blackletter by the foundry, drawing on both uncial and fraktur calligraphic traditions with opentype alternate sets for each influence.
