Drawing on a considered selection of Low Countries Baroque sources, MD Lórien adapts the ornate decorative qualities of that period into a family suited to demanding text work. Ten styles span Regular through Black, each with a matching italic, and the character set is extensive: small caps, oldstyle figures, tabular figures, ligatures, superscripts, subscripts and broad Latin language coverage are all included. The result sits between historical fidelity and contemporary utility in a way that makes it credible for long-form editorial and book work.
Classification
MD Lórien draws directly from late-17th to mid-18th-century Dutch Baroque typefaces, placing it firmly in the baroque serif tradition akin to the Caslon and Van Dijck lineage. The ornate historical source material is modernised for contemporary text use without abandoning its period character.
