A neo-grotesque optimised across three optical cuts for everything from screen UI text to high-impact display work.
About
Three optical variants handle distinct jobs: the XS cut uses prominent ink traps, wide apertures and humanist glyph constructions to stay legible at small sizes and in degraded environments; the XL cut is tightly spaced and precision-drawn for display use; and the standard variant sits between them as an all-purpose workhorse. Each cut runs the full weight range from Thin to Ultra with matching italics, giving 48 styles in total. Designed as a companion to MD IO and rooted in the International Typographic Style.
Classification
MD UI is positioned explicitly within the International Typographic Style tradition, making it a neo-grotesque; humanist-influenced glyph construction in the XS cut adds warmth but the overall framework is firmly neo-grotesque.
