MT Update Sans specimen from Modern Type

A flared grotesque drawn from 1970s and 80s type manuals, built with mono-like proportions and a wide weight range from Hairline to Heavy.

About

Designed by Ana Andreeva and Dalton Bruyns and released in 2024, MT Update Sans takes cues from mid-century manual typography to produce a proportional grotesque with flared terminals. The nine-weight range stretches from an extreme Hairline through to Heavy, giving the family reach across tight editorial settings and heavier display use. Its uniform proportions, borrowed in spirit from monospaced conventions, are intended to support expansion across different scripts and spacing systems.

Classification

Described as a flared grotesque drawing on 1970s–80s type manuals, with mono-like proportions — placing it firmly in the grotesque tradition with a humanist inflection from the flared terminals.
