Sparked by a photograph of a lopsided station sign at Boston's Boylston light rail stop, Helland reconstructed an entire typeface from just three droopy characters and a fragment of an arch before discovering what the original sign actually looked like. The result is a controlled collapse of grotesque convention: uneven proportions, erratic spacing propped up by over 1,700 lines of triplet kerning, and a general air of cheerful incompetence. It has one weight, a limited character set, and a personality that most type families spend decades trying to avoid.
