Vestmar takes the skeletal logic of DIN and Frutiger's engineering types and pushes it somewhere unexpected: bulbous forms that swell inwards, producing thick strokes where thin ones are conventional and asymmetry where symmetry is assumed. Influences range from Evert Bloemsma and Roger Excoffon's reverse-contrast experiments to Walter Becchia's automotive bodywork, all filtered through a restrained Nordic sensibility. Seven weights from Thin to Black, each with an italic, give the family broad range for editorial and identity work without ever raising its voice.
Classification
Vestmar draws from engineered and rational modernist letterforms via DIN and Frutiger references, but introduces organic, reverse-contrast tendencies and open apertures that align it with humanist sans rather than pure geometric or grotesque traditions.
