About
Each of the seven fonts in the Flip collection applies a distinct symmetrical constraint to the entire Latin character set, including vertical, horizontal, rotational, biaxial and multiaxial axes. Glyphs are reduced to their simplest symmetrical shapes while legibility is maintained as far as the mirroring allows. The collection also includes subcomponent font pairs that each show only half of a glyph, designed to be recombined into composite forms. Flip is a development of MuirMcNeil Sans Sans, an ongoing programme investigating the fundamental attributes of alphabetic form.
Classification
Although structurally based on a sans serif skeleton, Flip's governing principle is symmetrical manipulation of letterforms rather than typographic function, placing it firmly in the display/experimental category.
