displaygeometric bitmap
Interlock specimen from Muirmcneil

A geometric bitmap type system built on a strict grid, designed to be layered and offset to generate tonal patterns and textures across four styles and six weights.

About

Interlock replaces conventional stroke contrast with even patterns of parallel horizontal or vertical lines, progressively incremented in weight to produce tonal densities within the letter body. All contours and spaces align to a shared grid, allowing the four styles to interlock precisely with one another and with corresponding rectangular background grids. In page layout, bitmap or vector software, styles can be stacked in exact register or calibrated offsets, with outlines, tints, colours and transparencies applied to build complex surface effects.

Classification

Interlock is a geometric bitmap type system built on a strict grid, with letterforms constructed from parallel horizontal and vertical lines of incremented weight rather than conventional stroke contrast. Its layering mechanics and tonal density patterns place it firmly in the display category.
