A system of three-dimensional display typefaces built across four orthographic projections, each subdivided into four interlocking layers for compositing.
About
Panopticon structures each of its four projections — named A through D for top-right, bottom-left, top-left and bottom-right viewpoints — into Perimeter, Interior, Horizontal and Vertical layers that can be overlaid or offset in page layout and vector software. Letterforms are designed edge-to-edge with no inter-character spacing, and lines register flush at one or half-line increments. The system is named after Jeremy Bentham's polygonal surveillance architecture, a reference that runs through its logic of controlled viewpoints and concealed structure.
Classification
Panopticon is a modular, layered three-dimensional display system based on orthographic projection geometry; it has no characteristics of text typography and is built entirely for large-scale visual composition and display use.
