A speculative reconstruction of the wood type appearing on the cover of Luigi Russolo's 1913 Futurist noise manifesto, built outward from just ten surviving titling characters.
About
Originally commissioned in 2014 for a public event reimagining Russolo's 'L'Arte dei rumori' as a series of street parades through Maastricht, the typeface began with only the ten titling characters legible on the manifesto's front cover. When research into the original wood type's origins proved inconclusive, MuirMcNeil drew on grotesque and gothic display faces from the same era to reconstruct the missing characters. The result is less a traditional revival than a speculative reinvention, grounded in period research but shaped by editorial judgement.
