THD Sentient specimen from Muirmcneil

An all-capitals display family derived from the IBM Selectric II numerals famously visible on HAL 9000's screen in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, extended into four monolinear weights by MuirMcNeil and Tim Hutchinson.

About

Originally designed by Tim Hutchinson in 2017 for a Stanley Kubrick archive exhibition, THD Sentient traces its letterforms back to IBM Selectric II numerals that were repurposed for HAL 9000's display screens in 2001: A Space Odyssey. MuirMcNeil rationalised and expanded Hutchinson's single alphabet into a fully functional all-capitals character set across four weights, each set on bodies of identical width. Monolinear and proportionally spaced, it carries the air of a retrofuturist computer terminal without tipping into pastiche.

Classification

An all-capitals, monolinear, proportionally spaced display family derived from IBM Selectric II numerals as seen on HAL 9000's screen in 2001: A Space Odyssey; its stark geometric forms and sci-fi lineage place it firmly in the display category.
