NaN Tragedy specimen from NaN

A high-contrast serif by Jean-Baptiste Morizot that pairs a classical calligraphic skeleton with exaggerated geometrical detail, spanning Text, Display and Mono cuts.

About

Built around an exaggerated diagonal stress axis and unconventional letterforms set onto a classical skeleton, the family runs across three distinct subfamilies — Text, Display and Mono — developed between 2019 and 2023. The Display cut pushes contrast and drama further, while the Text cut applies optical corrections to keep the idiosyncratic forms functional at smaller sizes. Tragedy Mono is the most singular member, forcing the modulated diagonal stress into a monospaced grid to produce a texture rarely encountered in that format.

Classification

A high-contrast serif with a pronounced calligraphic stress axis and classical skeleton, sitting between transitional and contemporary serif traditions. The exaggerated contrast and unconventional details resist easy placement within historical categories.
