NaN Weiss
NaN · Luke Prowse · 2019

A monospace revival of Emil Rudolf Weiß' Weiss-Kapitale Kräftig by Luke Prowse, forcing a humanist calligraphic hand into the cold regularity of a fixed-width grid.
About
Designed by Luke Prowse between 2019 and 2020, NaN Weiss transplants the scriptural warmth of Weiß' early twentieth-century lettering into the metronomic constraints of a monospace. The collision produces something genuinely strange: letterforms that carry religious and humanist associations yet sit locked to a mechanical grid, described by NaN as an alien almost successfully pretending to be human. Ten weights from Thin to Extra Black give the family unusual expressive range for a fixed-width typeface, covering 219 Latin-based languages.
Classification
A fixed-width typeface derived from Emil Rudolf Weiß' calligraphic Weiss-Kapitale Kräftig; the monospace constraint places it firmly in the mono category, while its scriptural, humanist origins distinguish it from geometric or technical monospaces.
