Atacama specimen from Newglyph

A Garalde serif by Ian Party with bracketed serifs, curved droplets and a variable axis spanning weight, width and contrast across 180 styles.

About

Designed by Ian Party, Atacama takes the Garalde model as its framework, working with modulated thick-to-thin strokes, bracketed serifs and wide rounded apertures that aid legibility at text sizes. The family ships as two variable fonts covering Roman and Italic, with weight, width and contrast axes, generating 180 discrete static styles as a byproduct. With 399 glyphs per style and broad Latin language support, it targets print, web and screen applications equally.

Classification

The foundry explicitly classifies Atacama under the Garalde category, citing bracketed serifs, modulated stroke contrast and humanist curves characteristic of old-style typefaces in the Aldine tradition.
