New Kansas specimen from Newlyn

A seven-weight reimagining of Cooper Black by Miles Newlyn, extended with swash italics and a tall x-height for use across both display and text settings.

About

Built on the foundations of Oswald Cooper's Cooper Black, New Kansas widens the family to eight upright weights from Thin to Heavy and adds three italic variants including Swash and ExtraSwash cuts. The tall x-height extends the typeface's reach beyond headline use into longer copy, while the bulbous serifs and rounded stroke endings retain the warmth of the original. The swash italics give designers expressive options rarely found in families of this lineage.

Classification

A contemporary reimagining of Cooper Black, New Kansas retains the bulbous, rounded serifs and heavy character of Cooper's original, placing it firmly in the display serif category with its expressive, rounded stroke terminals.
