Sastre specimen from NM Type

A hybrid wedge serif by María Ramos that blends mechanical structure with old-style features, designed for long-form text and small sizes across five weights and a variable font.

About

Conceived in 2014 during María Ramos's studies at the University of Reading, Sastre draws on the mechanical look of a wedge serif while incorporating old-style design traits such as moderate contrast, an angled axis and wide characters. The family runs from Regular to Extrabold with a variable font, and includes monospaced small caps suited to vertical type settings alongside a collection of stitch ornaments for borders and patterns. The italic is still in development; the upright cuts and variable font are available exclusively from NM Type.

Classification

Sastre mixes the mechanical structure of a wedge serif with old-style design features, including moderate contrast and angled axis, making it a hybrid slab-influenced text serif with historical and unconventional influences.
