Lazare Grotesk specimen from Nootype

A 21-style grotesque with seven weights, italics and a backslanted variant, covering Latin and Cyrillic with broad OpenType support.

About

Released in December 2020 with Cyrillic added in 2021, the family spans UltraThin to Black across upright, italic and backslanted cuts — the latter a relatively rare inclusion that opens up unconventional layout options. Contrast increases notably in the Black weight, giving the heaviest styles a more expressive, almost display character. Cyrillic coverage includes alternate shapes for Bulgarian, Serbian and Macedonian, alongside an extensive Latin language list.

Classification

Explicitly named a Grotesk by the foundry, with the high contrast in heavier weights and dynamic character typical of the grotesque tradition. The backslanted variant adds an unusual expressive dimension uncommon in classical grotesques.
