Mathigon specimen from Not Your Type

A single-weight display face built entirely from the geometric shape tools of an online maths education platform, Polypad.

About

Designed by Xiaoyuan Gao as a deliberate experiment in using non-type-design software for type design, every glyph is assembled from the polygon and tile tools found in Mathigon's Polypad. Coverage is limited to basic Latin letters, numerals and minimal punctuation, which the designer attributes to the laborious nature of making the tool behave. The result is angular and geometric, with a coherent internal logic that comes directly from the constraints of the source tool.

Classification

Constructed entirely from geometric shapes via an online maths education tool, the letterforms are too idiosyncratic and tool-derived to sit in any conventional category; display best captures its experimental, single-use character.
