Didot Modern specimen from Nouvelle Noire

A hybrid Didone by Arnaud Chemin that grafts geometric minimalism and grotesque-derived alternates onto the French neoclassical printing tradition.

About

Drawing from Nicolas Pierre Gando, Ludwig & Mayer's Didone and Jules Didot sources, Arnaud Chemin stripped out baroque flourishes and teardrop terminals in favour of flat endings and sharp triangular serifs that read as both historical and rigorously contemporary. Ten styles run across five weights from Light to Black, each with a matching italic. A broad stylistic set offers alternate characters for A, R, Q, V, W and others, constructed on grotesque principles that Chemin traces back through Clarendon to the Didot tradition itself. Suited to fashion, luxury, art publishing and corporate identity work where high contrast and precision at large sizes are required.

Classification

Explicitly rooted in the Didot and Didone tradition, with extreme stroke contrast, flat unbracketed serifs and vertical stress characteristic of neoclassical French printing types.
