Originally sparked by a single Light Italic from an IBM Selectric specimen, the family was developed by Alexander Colby and subsequently overhauled and expanded by Timo Gaessner into a full release. Three distinct subfamilies — Éditeur Italic, Éditeur Serif and Éditeur Semi — each run through Thin to Bold, giving the family considerable range for editorial and screen use. The typewriter origins are worn openly rather than concealed, lending the forms a considered analog warmth.
Classification
Rooted in IBM Golfball typewriter letterforms, the family carries the distinctive fixed-pitch aesthetic of analog machinery across three subfamilies — Italic, Serif and Semi — placing it firmly in the typewriter-derived serif tradition.
