Medien
Nouvelle Noire · Anton Studer · 2010

A humanist sans designed by Anton Studer at ZHdK, built on a pixel-grid structure for legibility across screen and print.
About
Developed as a Master thesis project at the Zurich University of the Arts, Medien takes its underlying structure from screen pixel grids whilst remaining unobtrusive in print. The family sits in the humanist sans tradition alongside Frutiger and Syntax, sharing their organic stroke modulation and open apertures. Three weights with matching italics make it suited to corporate communications, digital interfaces and editorial work in magazines and newspapers.
Classification
The foundry explicitly classifies Medien as a humanistic sans serif, drawing comparisons to Frutiger and Syntax, with its structure grounded in screen pixel grids while remaining legible in print contexts.
