Artigo Display
Nova Type Foundry · Joana Correia · 2017

A display italic by Joana Correia that draws on handwriting shapes, released in six weights and awarded a Certificate of Typographic Excellence by the Type Directors Club in 2018.
About
Conceived as an expressive counterpart to the Artigo text typeface, this display family pushes the italic toward a more calligraphic register suited to headlines and large-scale setting. Six weights from ExtraLight to Black give it range across editorial and branding contexts. Oldstyle figures and ordinals are included as OpenType features, and Latin coverage extends to a broad range of European languages.
Classification
Described by the foundry as a contemporary interpretation of handwriting shapes in a display version of the italic, with expressive personality distinct from its text companion; classified as display given its orientation toward large-scale use and calligraphic italic structure.
