Loretta specimen from Nova Type Foundry

A contemporary text serif by Joana Correia and Abel Martins, with calligraphic origins restrained into stable, legible forms across six weights.

About

Designed by Abel Martins and Joana Correia and released in 2021, Loretta offers six weights from Light to ExtraBold each with a matching italic, totalling 12 styles. Low contrast and open shapes make it well-suited to body text in print and on screen, while the italic retains enough calligraphic energy to hold its own in editorial settings. OpenType features include oldstyle figures, tabular and lining figures, contextual alternates and standard ligatures.

Classification

Loretta is a contemporary serif with calligraphic roots, low contrast and open counters, placing it in the transitional serif tradition suited to continuous text and editorial work.
