Amira 2
Occupant Fonts · Cyrus Highsmith, Cem Eskinazi · 2004

A calligraphic sans by Cyrus Highsmith occupying rare ground between Optima's classical structure and Lydian's uninhibited stroke energy, expanded in 2023 with Greek, Cyrillic and small caps by Cem Eskinazi.
About
Designed by Cyrus Highsmith in 2004, Amira 2 sits in the narrow territory between serif-free calligraphy and structured sans, drawing on the lineage of Optima and Lydian while asserting its own angled vitality. Ten styles run from Light to Black with matching italics, supporting small caps and a thorough set of figure styles including oldstyle, tabular and fractions. Cem Eskinazi's 2023 expansion added Greek and Cyrillic scripts alongside small caps, broadening the family for multilingual editorial and text use.
Classification
Amira occupies the territory between calligraphic tradition and sans-serif structure, drawing comparison to Optima and Lydian. Its angled stress and letterform vitality place it firmly in the humanist sans tradition with a pronounced calligraphic inflection.
