Abalos specimen from Off Type

A retro-futuristic display sans by Valerio Monopoli, named after a Martian sand dune and shaped by loosely Arabic-inflected curves.

About

Nine weights from Hairline to Extrabold, each carrying swash terminals and optional cursive features that nod to Middle Eastern letterforms without directly quoting them. The concept frames the typeface as a speculative aesthetic for human life on Mars, bridging desert topologies of the past with science-fiction futures. OpenType features include swash terminals, italic shapes and an uncial A, giving designers room to modulate its expressiveness.

Classification

A display-oriented sans with cursive and swash features, drawing on retro-futuristic and loosely Arabic-influenced curves. Its expressive, wavy letterforms and speculative aesthetic place it firmly in the display category.
