OT Brut specimen from Off Type

A curveless, angular reworking of Bodoni by Valerio Monopoli, trading neoclassical elegance for rigid, brutalist construction across four styles including mono variants.

About

Where Bodoni relies on the tension between hairlines and thick strokes modulated by curves, OT Brut replaces all curves with straight angles, producing a high-contrast serif that reads as architectural rather than fashionable. Four styles cover proportional and monospaced versions in regular and italic, each carrying 502 glyphs with discretionary ligatures designed to interlock and compose. The mono styles also include coding abbreviations, making the family useful across editorial, poster and interface contexts.

Classification

A high-contrast serif in the Bodoni/Didone tradition, but stripped of curves entirely in favour of angular, constructed letterforms that the foundry explicitly frames as a brutalist reimagining of neoclassical models.
