Pergamon specimen from Off Type

A calligraphic serif by Valerio Monopoli that reworks parchment nib contrast into a structured 16-style family, offered in Smooth and Rough sub-families.

About

Named after the city where parchment was invented, it takes the stroke contrast of a broad-nib pen and formalises it across eight weights from Extralight to Black in both a clean Smooth cut and a textured Rough variant. The family ships with a variable font and includes monotonic Greek support, making it one of the few typefaces in the Off Type catalogue to do so. Aimed at digital editorial work, it sits between expressive calligraphic display type and a more structured text face.

Classification

Pergamon draws on parchment nib contrast and gestural calligraphic strokes, placing it in the tradition of digital calligraphic serif types; its structured weight range and Greek support give it versatility beyond purely expressive scripts.
