Rhapsody specimen from Off Type

A Didot-inspired display face by Valerio Monopoli, shaped by research linking musical notation to didone typography and packed with musical glyphs and discretionary ligatures.

About

Born from Reading University research that traced the design of contemporary musical notation back to Didot's typographic rationale, this eight-weight family reworks those high-contrast letterforms for a musical context. The glyph set includes dedicated musical notation characters alongside lyrical discretionary ligatures, old-style figures and italic shape alternates. At 568 glyphs per style, it is an unusually considered display face for editorial, album and concert-adjacent work.

Classification

Rhapsody draws explicitly from Didot's typographic structure, reinterpreting the high-contrast, rational skeleton of the didone tradition through a modern, music-influenced lens suited to display use.
