Beastly
OH no Type · James Edmondson

A Lubalin-era display serif originally commissioned for the Lubalin 100 centenary project, offered in nine optical sizes.
About
Designed as a custom typeface for the Lubalin 100 project with art director Sasha Tochilovsky, Beastly draws on the lettering traditions of Herb Lubalin's studio without directly aping any single existing face. Nine optical sizes from 12 Point to 72 Point each carry subtly adjusted spacing and weight to suit their intended setting, from running text to large-scale poster work. Named after a Vulfpeck track from their 2011 debut EP, it sits comfortably in editorial, packaging and poster contexts that want the energy of 1970s New York graphic design.
Classification
A display typeface rooted in Herb Lubalin-era lettering, with tightly spaced, optically scaled letterforms and characteristically heavy, expressive serifs typical of 1970s graphic design.
