Ohno Casual specimen from OH no Type

A sign-painting-inspired casual with an unusual variable design space that pairs a weight axis with a contrast axis, producing a diagonal trajectory through the design space.

About

Drawn by James Edmondson with Corinne Ang, Jamie Otelsberg and Colin Ford, Ohno Casual takes the single-stroke efficiency of traditional sign-painting casuals and deliberately undermines its rationalism. The variable font combines a weight axis with a contrast axis in a diagonal design space, and the static family runs six weights from Thin to Black. A companion Textile font handles ornamental and dingbat material, and squiggly alternates sit alongside case-sensitive punctuation and non-lining figures throughout.

Classification

Rooted in the sign-painting tradition of single-stroke casual lettering, but with an unconventional variable design space combining weight and contrast axes that push it firmly into display territory rather than workaday script.
