Polymath specimen from OH no Type

A geometric sans in three optical sizes with nine weights, extensive OpenType alternates and a variable font, designed by James Edmondson, Colin M. Ford and Jamie Otelsberg between 2021 and 2024.

About

Developed as a more neutral counterpart to OH no Type's Degular, Polymath takes the geometric sans genre as its starting point with clear Futura lineage, then adds a wide array of stylistic alternates ranging from legibility forms and double-storey a and g, to Bauhaus-influenced characters, gaspipe variants and an uncial-style a. Three optical sizes cover running text, general-purpose setting and large-scale display work, with all nine weights available in roman and italic across each cut. The complete family runs to 54 styles plus a variable font, making it one of the more fully realised geometric sans releases of recent years.

Classification

Polymath draws directly from the geometric sans tradition, citing Paul Renner's Futura as a primary reference. Its circular forms and constructed letterforms place it firmly in the geometric sans subcategory, though extensive alternates allow it to move between strict geometric and more humanist registers.
