Okay specimen from Okay Type

A single ultra-bold display sans by Jackson Showalter-Cavanaugh that reinterprets Gill Kayo with dry wit rather than slapstick excess, available across three widths with a variable font offering fine-grained control over width and extender length.

About

Born from a failed attempt to tame Gill Kayo's goofiness, Okay settles into its own register: punchy, warm and faintly sardonic rather than cartoonishly heavy. The family spans Black, Narrow and Condensed widths, each with a true italic, and a variable font exposes a Width axis from 60 to 100 alongside a custom XTND axis for controlling ascender and descender length. It received awards from Communication Arts and the Society of Typographic Arts, and was selected for Typographica's Fontiest Fonts of 2019.

Classification

Described by the foundry as an extra-bold, kinda-humanist display sans, it draws from Gill Kayo's ultra-bold tradition while moderating its exaggerated forms into something drier and more controlled across multiple widths.
