Bagnard
Open Foundry · Sebastien Sanfilippo

A single-weight serif drawn from the graffiti of an anonymous Napoleonic-era prisoner, giving it an irregular, hand-carved quality.
About
Designed by Sebastien Sanfilippo, Bagnard takes its character from inscriptions scratched by a prisoner during the Napoleonic wars, lending the letterforms an uneven, makeshift texture that sets it apart from conventional serifs. Available in a single Regular weight under the SIL Open Font License, it suits display and headline use where a raw, historical tone is appropriate. The specimen was created by Damien Poulain.
Classification
Classified as serif by the foundry; the irregular, hand-drawn quality inspired by prisoner graffiti suggests a display-oriented serif with expressive, rough characteristics.
