Hermes specimen from Optimo

A reinterpretation of the Hermes 3000 typewriter's Epoca face by Gavillet & Rust, extended to three widths and variable cuts in 2024.

About

A sans-serif by Gavillet & Rust, originally drawn in 2001 as a reinterpretation of the Epoca face produced by the Hermes 3000 typewriter. Soft curves, balanced geometry and low-contrast strokes carry a subtle retro charm without leaning kitsch. Redrawn and extended by Amélie Gallay in 2024, Hermes now runs as a collection across Narrow, standard and Wide widths in five weights with italics, plus variable fonts that bridge the widths and connect the gaps between the original Narrow and Wide families.

Classification

Optimo describes Hermes as a reinterpretation of the Epoca typeface produced by a Hermes 3000 typewriter, with simple geometrical shapes and low-contrast strokes adapted proportionally for legibility.
