Designed by Emily Atwood and mastered by Alphabet Type, Etude takes its construction logic from the exposed entry and exit points of a broad nib pen rather than from the more common broken-roman stencil tradition. Its three weights, Light, Regular and Bold, are framed as a crescendo: delicate and soft in Light, increasingly prominent in Bold. Historical reference points include Hermann Zapf's Alkor Notenschrift, Louis Simmoneau's 1701 engravings and Rousselet's 1719 liturgical manuscript for Louis XV.
