Buzz
OTT Foundry · Quentin Coulombier

A single-weight display type drawn from mid-20th-century American wood typefaces, with deliberate optical imperfections that evoke the materiality of carved letterpress production.
About
Designed by Quentin Coulombier and mastered at OTT, Buzz takes its cues from the front-page wood type of American newspapers at their peak, particularly the heavy, impactful vernacular of the mid-1900s. Rather than correcting for optical consistency, the typeface intentionally omits standard optical adjustments, producing subtle weight variations that read as handcrafted rather than digital. Rounded curves soften the otherwise imposing mass, sitting somewhere between authoritative and playful.
Classification
Buzz is a heavy display typeface drawn explicitly from mid-20th-century American wood type, designed for large-scale headline use with intentional optical irregularities that reflect carved letterpress production.
