Memoria specimen from OTT Foundry

A contemporary reimagining of primitive broad-nib stone-cut lettering, drawn from Swiss Germanic inscription traditions and tombstone epigraphy.

About

Designed by Arnaud Chemin, Memoria takes its uppercase model from a type specimen in Schrift + Symbol in Stein, Holz und Metall (1977), an archetypal form passed down through stone-carving craft. A newly added lowercase set expands its range, with condensed forms counterbalanced by circular 'O/o' constructions and up to 20 stylistic sets of playful alternates. The result sits between geometric order and the raw tension of the hand, well suited to dramatic titles, posters, album covers and expressive identity work.

Classification

Memoria is rooted in rustic broad-nib lettering and tombstone epigraphy with strong blackletter influence, but its condensed modular forms, stylistic alternates and all-caps stone-cut origins place it firmly in the display category rather than traditional blackletter.
