New Eddy specimen from OTT Foundry

A condensed titling serif conceived for large-scale projection during a dance performance, built around extreme stroke contrast and exaggerated serifs.

About

Designed by Eliott Grunewald, New Eddy was originally commissioned to appear on a giant screen during a live performance, which drove its priority of legibility at scale alongside maximum contrast. Long tapering strokes and high-waisted capitals push toward caricature without breaking readability, and the mix of wide round letters with narrower upright ones creates a distinctive typographic rhythm. Certain capitals, notably B, R, P and E, carry an art deco construction that gives the face a period quality at odds with its contemporary application.

Classification

A titling serif with pronounced vertical contrast, exaggerated serifs and condensed proportions, designed for large-scale display use. Art deco influences appear in specific letterforms such as B, R, P and E.
