Amster Versal Iluminada specimen from Pampatype

A single-font set of elaborately illuminated capital letters drawn from Chilean vernacular printed news sheets of the late 19th century.

About

Each capital letter contains a miniature scene populated by animals, farmers, priests, devils and drunkards, drawn from the tradition of Chilean vernacular broadsheets. The family is a companion to Amster, Pampatype's transitional serif, and was programmed by Guido Ferreyra to function as layered fonts. Recognised at the Tipos Latinos Biennale in both 2008 and 2014, it suits poetic and editorial contexts where an illustrative, historically grounded initial is called for.

Classification

A set of decorative, multi-layered capital letters designed as illuminated initials, placing it firmly in the display category with no running text function. The ornamental, illustrative character of each glyph puts it closer to decorative display than any standard serif or script classification.
