Originating as a research project into the Carolingian minuscule script of 8th and 9th-century Frankish monasteries, the typeface evolved over seven years into a fully fledged sanserif suitable for both long-form reading and display use. Twelve styles run from Thin to Black with matching italics, and the character set is richly equipped with small caps, old-style figures, historical forms, ligatures and pinyin Latin support. Its calligraphic origins give the letterforms a relaxed rhythm that distinguishes it from more neutral grotesques.
