Designed by Jean-Baptiste Morizot and Lucas Le Bihan for Cercle magazine's 2020 ghost-themed issue, Karrik evokes abandoned places and discontinued electric station signage through wilful design flaws: uneven letter widths, heavy stem joins left uncorrected, and weight distribution that runs against conventional practice. A stylistic set (SS01) introduces chaotic alternate uppercase letters for added vernacular disorder. Released as a libre font through the Velvetyne foundry, it reads coherently at body size despite its display-oriented irregularities.
Classification
Karrik is deliberately modelled on early, clumsy grotesque sans-serifs, with intentional optical corrections omitted and uneven weight distribution to evoke forgotten vernacular type foundries.
