Nostra specimen from Plain Form

A two-style monospaced display family pairing a heavy block-like cut with a hairline cursive, creating an almost pattern-like visual rhythm at text scale.

About

Designed by Lucas Descroix and released in 2019, Nostra pairs two wildly contrasting styles — the dense, wall-like Sett and the fluid, flourish-inspired Stream — united solely by their shared monospaced width. That uniform spacing gives set text an optical, near-abstract quality, hovering between legibility and geometry. The family covers Extended Latin, Cyrillic and Greek, with Cyrillic consulting by Ilya Ruderman and Yury Ostromentsky, and received recognition from Modern Cyrillic 2019, Communication Arts 2020 and Typographica's Favourite Typefaces of 2019.

Classification

Nostra is a display family built around a strict monospaced grid, with two radically contrasting cuts — a heavy solid style and a hairline cursive — placing it firmly in the display category rather than any conventional text genre.
