Cipher specimen from Positype

A pseudo-monospaced typeface by Neil Summerour that widens only the characters harmed by a fixed grid, preserving columnar rhythm while improving readability across eight weights.

About

Rather than forcing every glyph into a uniform width, Cipher selectively releases characters like lowercase m and w to the space their forms actually need, while keeping numerals strictly monospaced for clean tabular alignment. The family runs across eight weights from ExtraLight to Black, each with a matching italic, and carries extensive Latin Extended, Greek and Cyrillic coverage suited to multilingual code editors and technical documentation. Box drawing and block element sets are included and calibrated to align precisely at the monospace grid, making the typeface directly useful for terminal user interfaces.

Classification

Cipher is built on a monospaced foundation but selectively widens certain characters such as m, w and wide Cyrillic glyphs where strict fixed-width would distort the letterform, placing it in a pseudo-monospace category distinct from both true monospace and proportional designs.
