Captured specimen from Primary Foundry

A variable-weight, fixed-width typeface by Jonathan Maghen drawing on IBM's 1960s credit card capture technology as its conceptual and formal starting point.

About

Inspired by the imprint technology developed by IBM for credit card capture in the 1960s, the typeface carries a retro-digital rigidity softened by five weights running from Thin to Bold via a variable TTF. Its 234-glyph set covers basic Latin, lining and old style figures, ligatures and an extensive range of alternates. Available across desktop, web and variable formats, with free use available for self-initiated, non-profit and cultural projects.

Classification

Captured is explicitly described as a fixed-width typeface, making it monospaced. Its design inspiration from IBM credit card capture technology and its extensive alternates give it a display character within that fixed-width framework.
