General Idea specimen from Primary Foundry

An all-caps, fixed-width display face by Jonathan Maghen drawn from twentieth century technical lettering and the text-based art of Lawrence Weiner.

About

Rooted in the visual language of Lawrence Weiner and named partly in tribute to the Canadian conceptual art collective General Idea (1967–1994), the typeface carries a spare, institutional character suited to cultural and editorial contexts. The glyph set is limited to 96 characters covering basic Latin, lining figures, punctuation and symbols. The Desktop OTF is available free for self-initiated, non-profit and cultural projects, with paid licences for commercial use.

Classification

An all-caps, fixed-width display face derived from twentieth century technical lettering tools and the visual language of Lawrence Weiner's text-based art, placing it firmly in the display category with a monospaced, stencil-adjacent character.
