Hidde Grotesk specimen from Primary Foundry

A neo-grotesque by Matteo Bettini where stencil-derived gaps at letter joints are treated as a formal design feature rather than a printing constraint.

About

Designed by Matteo Bettini, Hidde takes the structural logic of outdoor stencil printing and applies it permanently to the letterforms, leaving pronounced gaps at joints across both upper and lowercase characters. A companion Book style offers a more conventional roman for standard usage, while the Wax variant embraces the gaps as an expressive layer. The family covers extended Latin with 258 glyphs including lining figures, alternates and punctuation, and a limited 128-glyph desktop version is available free for non-profit and cultural projects.

Classification

Described explicitly as a neo-grotesk, with stencil-derived gaps at letter joints as its defining structural feature, placing it within the grotesque tradition but with a distinct sculptural intervention.
