Schriftsystem
Primary Foundry · Jonathan Maghen, Ian Griffin

A variable, fixed-width stencil typeface by Jonathan Maghen and Ian Griffin, drawing on Friedrich Soennecken's 1887 analogue writing system and Donald Knuth's Metafont program.
About
Three stencil styles, Stencil, Stencil Round and Stencil Pill, share a fixed-width structure informed by two very different historical sources: Soennecken's nineteenth-century handwriting system and Knuth's parametric font-description language. The family ships in desktop OTF, web WOFF and variable TTF formats, with 184 glyphs covering lining and old-style figures, ligatures and extensive alternates. Desktop use is available free for self-initiated, non-profit and cultural projects.
Classification
Described explicitly as a fixed-width typeface with stencil cuts; the monospaced structure and stencil aesthetic place it firmly in the mono category with a stencil subcategory.
