Common Shapes
Process Type Foundry · Eric Olson · 2025

A softened geometric sans by Eric Olson built around capsule and semi-sphere forms, continuing the geometric thread of his earlier Colfax.
About
Eric Olson's follow-up to Colfax refines an approach that is geometric in tone without being rigidly mechanical, using capsule and semi-sphere shapes as its organising principle. Six weights with matching italics make for twelve styles in total, and a single stylistic set lets users strip forms back even further for a more pared-down appearance. Its spare character suits casual editorial contexts and interfaces where a light typographic touch is preferred over assertiveness.
Classification
Built around capsule and semi-sphere shapes, Common Shapes is geometric in its underlying structure but deliberately avoids strict mechanical construction, placing it in a softened geometric sans tradition.
